Fall Foliage in the PoconosThe 2007 SeasonThis year seems to promise spectacular colors. As of September 27th, 2007, the leaves are beginning to turn. Most of the leaves are still on the trees at this point. Peaks are expected between October 10th and October 27th. OverviewA trip to the Poconos during the Fall Foliage season offers spectacular views of natural beauty. The trick is to pick the best viewing time. The nature of the display will vary according to the conditions during the preceding summer (drought, heat, rain etc). The actual peaks will also depend on conditions during October (A heavy rain and high winds can strip a majority of the leaves overnight). SeasonThe Fall Foliage season in the Poconos begins in early October and is over by the end of October. The Poconos encompasses a large area so the peak times will vary somewhat depending on your location and the weather. For the most part, the peaks will occur between October 10th and October 20th. The Columbus Day Weekend is great for Couples and Families looking to extend their enjoyment (If you can book a room) The following will offer some guidance as to the current status of the foliage including expected peak times.
Events and activities. The season includes a variety of events throughout the region. One really great way to enjoy the show is to take a train excursion. Another less traveled way is to take a boat ride on one of the lakes or, for the really adventurous, a float or tubing ride.
